MAKI Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in the 2nd edition of Tokyo Gendai. The gallery will present five established contemporary artists: Mungo Thomson, Marius Bercea, Alec Egan, Craig Kucia, and Keisuke Tada.
Mungo Thomson (b. 1969 in Davis, CA) is known for a diverse body of conceptual work that challenges everyday perceptions and conventions through film, sound, and sculpture. Marius Bercea (b. 1979 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania) is known for paintings that are at once brightly colored albeit with dark undertones, depicting the banalities and uncertainties of life in early-capitalist Romania, after the fall of Communism. Alec Egan, (b. 1984 in Los Angeles, CA) employs thickly laid impasto in his depictions of fictitious still lifes and landscape paintings that show vast, open spaces drawn from his own memory and imagination. Craig Kucia (born in Cleveland, Ohio) is known for his thought-provoking paintings with intricate and uncanny compositions which explore the visual and psychological spaces that arise between memory and imagination. Keisuke Tada (b. 1986 in Aichi) questions the existence of objects in relation to physical and virtual spaces, using the work as craft artificially weathered landscape paintings.
We look forward to seeing you at Booth C15.
