MAKI Gallery and Wood Kusaka Studios are pleased to announce the publication of Jonas Wood’s 24 Tennis Court Drawings. The catalog highlights the suite of 24 drawings first presented at Wood’s 2018 exhibition, Tennis Court Drawings, at Shane Campbell Gallery in Chicago. These large scale drawings, produced between 2016 and 2018, depict various international tennis tournaments through Wood’s interpretation of their physical spaces.

The 24 drawings are currently on permanent display at MAKI Collection until they will be gifted to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) by 2025. The catalog includes a conversation with the artist that provides insight into the thoughts and processes behind his tennis court work, as well as invaluable images of his studio during production.

We hope this publication will inspire you to explore the captivating charm of one of Wood’s most important works.

Jonas Wood
Jonas Wood (b. 1977, Boston) turns to his own life for inspiration, reconstructing images of still lifes, landscapes, domestic scenes and portraits of friends and family into layered compositions of vivid colors and intricate shapes. His wide-ranging practice—encompassing paintings, drawings, and prints—draws from various movements throughout art history, including Impressionism, Cubism, and Pop Art, while simultaneously imparting a deeply personal and contemporary touch.
